The 79-year-old president maintains a close working relationship with his 28-year-old White House press secretary, but her physical appearance, rather than her performance, frequently appears to capture Trump’s attention. The president has been recorded on numerous occasions becoming distracted by Leavitt and shifting his remarks to comment on her lips.
Trump’s latest observations about Leavitt’s looks included praising her “beautiful face” and comparing her lips to a “machine gun.” The politician faced widespread criticism for these remarks, with many describing them as “creepy.”

Trump faced backlash in October when he told reporters on Air Force One he wouldn’t be replacing Leavitt because her lips “move like a machine gun.” He delivered these comments in response to a journalist’s inquiry about Leavitt’s job performance.

“How’s Karoline doing? Is she doing good? Should Karoline be replaced?” Trump asked. He then provided a definitive response, stating, “No.” Leavitt was heard in the background quipping, “That is entirely up to you, sir.” Trump grinned before conceding that Leavitt would “never” be replaced, remarking, “She does a great job. And those lips? They move like a machine gun.”
Online critics were swift to respond, with one person fuming, “The greatest compliment POTUS can pay a woman is to compare her to a gun! Welcome to America.” Another chimed in, “Why does Trump always use the creepiest words when he’s talking about women?”
Trump says Leavitt’s lips ‘dominate’
This wasn’t the first time Trump had likened Leavitt’s lips to a machine gun. Back in December, he took the stage at a rally in Pennsylvania and sang his press secretary’s praises.
“Isn’t she great? Is Karoline great? You know, when she goes on television, Fox, like, I mean, they dominate,” Trump gushed as he went off-script during the event.

Once again, Trump faced a fierce backlash for his remarks. One user raged on X, “Trump is a disgusting fool.” Another fumed, “Trump reducing a woman to her looks and the sound of her lips is grotesque, juvenile, and horrifyingly predictable.”

“She’s become a star. It’s that face. It’s that brain. It’s those lips. The way they move. They move like she’s a machine gun” he said. During the same interview, the president made an unusual remark about “very beautiful” wars.
“You take a look at what’s happened just over the last little while, we’ve settled a lot of… A lot of very beautiful wars have been settled,” he told host Rob Finnerty. “You know, one of the wars: India-Pakistan, nuclear.”
It appears Leavitt’s lips aren’t the only thing that catches Trump’s attention. In January, he was aboard Air Force One when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence.

As the Boeing 747-200B series jet shook in the air, Trump nearly lost his balance, prompting him to make a strange joke about Leavitt. “I’m going to grab here, because it’s going to get rough,” Trump announced.
He then reached for a seat handle before adding, “I’m looking for something to grab, and it’s not going to be Karoline.” The president wore a smirk as he delivered the remarks.
“Always with the tasteless comments, even at a moment like that,” one critic later complained on social media. Another responded, “Trump being creepy for the millionth time.”
