Charlie Kirk Shooting Case Update on FBI Protection

The Charlie Kirk shooting case entered a new phase after the FBI ended protective services for Lance Twiggs. Twiggs was previously under federal protection because of his connection to the suspect.

Twiggs was the romantic partner and former roommate of Tyler Robinson. Robinson faces charges related to the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Law enforcement sources said the protection lasted several months. However, the FBI has not explained why the security detail ended.

Charlie Kirk Shooting Case Originates at Utah Event

The Charlie Kirk shooting case began after a fatal incident on September 10. The shooting occurred during a political event at Utah Valley University.

The event was organized by Turning Point USA and drew a large crowd. Authorities said Kirk was addressing attendees when he was shot from a distance.

Emergency responders pronounced Kirk dead shortly afterward. The attack quickly triggered a multi-agency investigation.

Arrest and Charges in the Charlie Kirk Shooting Case

Police arrested Robinson two days after the shooting. The arrest followed a large search operation involving multiple agencies.

Prosecutors charged Robinson with aggravated murder and additional felony counts. Those charges include obstruction of justice.

Court filings show prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Meanwhile, Robinson has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Evidence Presented in Charlie Kirk Shooting Case

Investigators said they recovered a rifle believed to be used in the attack. Authorities also cited forensic evidence linking Robinson to the shooting.

Additionally, investigators reviewed digital communications tied to the case. These included text messages and a handwritten note.

According to charging documents, Robinson allegedly wrote about having an opportunity to target Kirk. Officials say the note was discovered during the investigation.

Lance Twiggs Role in Investigation

Twiggs became part of the Charlie Kirk shooting case because of his relationship with Robinson. Investigators also examined messages exchanged between the two men.

Authorities said Twiggs cooperated with law enforcement early in the investigation. Therefore, the FBI assigned protective agents due to safety concerns.

Sources said multiple agents were involved in providing security. However, the protective detail ended earlier this winter.

Messages After the Shooting

Court records describe text messages exchanged shortly after the shooting. Investigators say Twiggs asked Robinson whether he carried out the attack.

You weren’t the one who did it right????” Twiggs allegedly asked. Robinson allegedly responded by saying he was responsible and apologized.

These messages are now part of the evidence cited by prosecutors. However, officials have not charged Twiggs with any crime.

Defense Motions Filed in the Case

The case continues in Utah Fourth District Court. Defense attorneys have filed several pretrial motions challenging aspects of the prosecution.

One motion asks a judge to disqualify the Utah County Attorney’s Office. Defense lawyers claim a potential conflict of interest exists.

They argue a family member of a deputy prosecutor attended the event where Kirk was shot. According to the motion, that individual later discussed the incident with the prosecutor.

Prosecutors Reject Conflict Claims

Prosecutors strongly dispute the defense argument. They said the prosecutor’s child did not witness the shooting directly.

Officials also said the person does not have meaningful information about the crime. Therefore, prosecutors said the individual will not be called as a witness.

The Charlie Kirk shooting case remains in the pretrial phase. Both sides continue preparing arguments before the next court hearing.
