A post from the Iranian Embassy has been shared widely, as it brutally mocks the recent high-profile firings of the U.S. military under Pete Hegseth.
Hegseth fired Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Randy George, this week, as well as two other Army generals on Thursday: the chief of chaplains, Maj: Gen. William Green, and the commanding general of Army Transformation and Training Command, David Hodne.
Amid the purge, the Iranian Embassy posted a series of photographs of the recently fired military figures with huge red crosses over them, along with the caption, “The regime change happened successfully. MAGA.”
British/American journalist Mehdi Hasan reposted this, adding, “An Iranian embassy trolling the Trump administration over Pete Hegseth’s purge of the U.S. military mid-war.”
“Iran is winning the propaganda war & it’s not even close,” added the journalist Carole Cadwalladr.
Sean Parnell, the Pentagon’s chief spokesperson, announced on Friday that Gen. Randy George “will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately.”

The dismissal marks the latest in a series of more than a dozen removals of senior generals and admirals by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. As with numerous others, Pentagon officials have not provided an explanation for George’s exit, which occurs nearly five weeks into U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and without a definitive timeframe from the president regarding when hostilities may cease.
This comes as one of Trump’s alleged reasons for starting the war in Iran was an attempt to initiate regime change.

Fox News disclosed on Friday evening the purported tension between Hegseth and Army Chief Dan Driscoll, citing multiple sources who claim this conflict is the underlying reason for Randy George’s recent termination.
The New York Post also consulted individuals who supported the notion that the removal stemmed from issues with Driscoll, while referencing the March 2025 group chat Hegseth conducted with national security officials that inadvertently included a journalist.
George has served as Army chief of staff, a position normally spanning four years, since August 2023 during the Biden administration.
He is a West Point graduate and an infantry officer who served in the first Gulf War and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. He served as former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s senior military aide from 2021 to 2022.
